Sustainability
When De Laape was developed, we focused as much as possible on future-proof construction. In addition to the buildings being as green as possible, green meetings have another advantage; research has shown that meeting in nature leads to better decision-making.

Our catering: local, seasonal and with a story
At Laape, we believe that good food doesn't have to travel far. That's why we operate according to the principles of Dutch Cuisine and are proud to be a partner. We use approximately 80% local ingredients and only 20% from outside the Netherlands. Under the guidance of chef Kees Meinderts – owner of restaurant Mearkas and awarded a green Michelin star since October 2024 – we serve surprising, top-notch dishes. We also embrace shared dining, creating a space for connection, conversation, and less food waste.
Circular Friesland
Since July 1, 2025, De Laape has been a member of Circulair Friesland – an association in which over 180 businesses, schools, and government agencies collaborate on a circular economy in Friesland. We are proud to be part of this powerful network that is committed to a cleaner, healthier, and more future-proof region. Together, we are building a system in which reuse, local thinking, and sustainability are self-evident.

Bee Foundation
Bees are essential: they provide almost 90% of global pollination, forming the foundation of our food and ecosystem. Yet, more than half of the 360 Dutch bee species are on the Red List. That's why Laape is an ambassador for the Bee Foundation, which is committed to creating a better environment for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies. We wholeheartedly support this mission. That's why we donate a percentage of half of our bookings to the foundation. This way, our guests also actively contribute to a bee-friendly world. The remaining donations go to UNICEF's Plastic Building Blocks project, thus also contributing to a better future.
Plastic Bricks Unicef
At Laape, we believe in meaningful entrepreneurship. That's why we support UNICEF's Plastic Building Blocks project: a sustainable initiative in Ivory Coast where plastic waste is recycled into building blocks for classrooms. In Ivory Coast, only 5% of plastic waste is recycled—often by women, at a far too low price. At the same time, 1.6 million children are out of school. UNICEF's factory buys the plastic at a fair price and processes it into sturdy building blocks that are used to build new schools. In this way, this project contributes to better education and a more sustainable world.

Sustainably certified
De Laape takes sustainability seriously, and with pride we carry the certifications of Green Key, Dutch Cuisine and we are in the process of becoming B Corp certified. With our certifications, we are recognisable for embracing sustainability in all its facets. More importantly, we want to keep learning. If you have any tips or things you notice, let us know, we are happy to work on them.
